Police officers in Anambra have arrested two suspects for allegedly supplying food and arms to criminal gangs in the state.
Spokesperson of the state police command, Toochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Awka.
He said one of the suspects was intercepted by a joint police-led security force who were conducting a routine patrol in the Pillar-Pole area of Aguata.
The spokesman added that the suspect was carrying three sacks of cassava flour (garri) and a large quantity of gunpowder when arrested.

Ikenga said: “Apart from the gunpowder concealed in the ‘garri’ bag, a locally made pistol and live ammunition were recovered from the suspect.
“Initial information indicates that the suspect was on his way to a criminal camp to deliver the items when he was arrested.”
He also disclosed that operatives of the Special Anti-Leftist Cult Squad arrested a suspect when they raided a criminal hideout in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area of the state.
According to him, one locally assembled firearm along with two live bullets was found from the suspect.
Ikenga said the suspects are currently in custody and will be charged to court after investigations.
