The High Court of the Lagos state sitting in the State Ikeja, on Friday, extended until 10 March 2025 to listen to the cause presented by the restored speaker of the Chamber of the Lagos Assembly, Mudashu Obasa.
Obasa is challenging the accusations that led to its initial removal as a speaker, which included fraud, high hand, abuse of office and serious bad conduct.
The interviewees in the cause are members of the house and former President Mojisola Meraranda.
When the case was called on Friday, Judge Yetunde Pinheiro ordered all parties to present and serve their processes before the next date.
The judge updated the case until 10 March for the hearing of all the questions, including the call of Obasa origin.
Previously, the main councilor of Obasa, Afolabi Fasanu (San), informed the court that although the fought rapporteur had been restored, the cause had not become an academic exercise.
He claimed that the applicant was not given a good hearing.
According to him, the rapporteur is now competing for the accusations in the notice of his removal.
The consultant for the 34 legislators, Romeo Ese-Michael, said: “Even if the complainant withdraws his cause because of his re-election, our conventional question is still on his feet.
“Legislators want that the Court declare that the removal of the rapporteur was constitutional and was in tandem with the 92 section of the 1999 Constitution, rather than the rules that guide the Chamber of the Lagos State Assembly.”
Obasa was accused on January 13, following accusations of serious bad conduct and charge abuse, and the deputy was elected as his successor.
However, on March 3, Obasa was restored as the speaker of the Lagos assembly house.
He returned as a speaker, following the resignation of Meranda.
