The Ijebu Traditional Council on Friday endorsed the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Ogun State, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as YAYI, ahead of the 2027 governorship elections.
The approval came during an advisory visit by the senator to the council at the palace of the late Awujale of Ijebuland in Ijebu-Ode.
Adeola, accompanied by Governor Dapo Abiodun and top APC leaders in the state, met with council members to seek the support and blessings of traditional rulers as they begin preparations for the 2027 governorship race.
Speaking at the meeting, Abiodun described Adeola as a worthy successor, saying he possessed the necessary qualities to govern Ogun State.
The governor said he had deliberately sought a leader with integrity, competence, compassion and experience, while also considering the principle of rotation of power in Ogun West.
“I have looked for a man of integrity, ability, compassion, experience and of Ogun West origin as my successor, and in Senator Solomon Adeola I have found that man,” Abiodun said.
Responding on behalf of the council, the Acting Chairman of Ijebu and Orimolusi Traditional Council of Ijebu-Igbo, Oba Lawrence Jaiyeoba, commended the governor for the choice of Adeola, describing it as in line with the position of the Ijebu traditional institution.
The monarch said the council’s approval was based on two main considerations.
According to him, the late Awujale and paramount ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, had publicly declared support for Adeola during the 2024 Ojude Oba Festival.
He recalled that the late monarch urged traditional rulers of Ijebuland to rally behind the senator when the time came for the 2027 governorship contest.
“Many of us were present when Kabiyesi publicly said that YAYI was his son and that he should become the next governor of Ogun State. He charged us to support him when the opportunity arose,” Oba Jaiyeoba said.
The monarch also cited Adeola’s performance as a senator representing Ogun West, saying her campaign projects and empowerment programs had positively impacted communities across the 20 local government areas of the state.
He noted that the senator’s development interventions had won him wide acceptance beyond his senatorial district.
Following remarks from other traditional rulers, the monarchs unanimously endorsed Adeola as their preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship election and offered prayers for the success of her aspiration.
