World Cup 2026: Spain capable of beating France –De La Fuente

Spanish coach Luis de la Fuente has revealed that he is completely convinced that his team will beat France in the semi-final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Recall that Spain advanced with a winning goal from substitute Mikel Merino in the 88th minute of the quarterfinals at SoFi Stadium. La Roja conceded their only goal of the entire World Cup late in the first half against Belgium, while France has amassed 16 goals in its six World Cup matches.

Praising his rival, he stated that Spain’s tactical approach and current form make them capable of taking down any team.

De la Fuente’s confidence comes from a historic run of form, as Spain head into the blockbuster clash with an unbeaten run of over 30 matches in all competitions.

While acknowledging France’s pedigree as a formidable opponent, the Spanish coach believes La Roja’s momentum and tactical flexibility will give them the advantage in what he described as a “final before the final.”

“Let me be clear: We are not done,” de la Fuente said.

“We are going to work to try to surpass France, but they will be just as worried, since we have shown that we are the only team in the world capable of beating them in two consecutive games.”

France has reached the last two World Cup finals and won it all in 2018. Spain has only reached one World Cup final in its history, but the current team is undefeated in 37 consecutive competitive matches since March 2023, a stretch that also includes a penalty shootout loss to Portugal in the Nations League final last year.
