The captain of the national senior team of Nigeria William Troost-Ekong has made suggestions that the team depends largely on the striker Victor Osimhen, after their two goals helped a 2-0 victory over Rwanda in the World Cup qualifiers on Friday, reports Owngoalnigeria.com.
Osimhen, like Ekong, was playing in his first classification of the World Cup after the four previous games and his absence, Nigeria could not win. He made an instant impact with his orthopedic device in the 11th and three minutes in added time after the first half stop a 2-0 victory in Kigali.
His instant impact that helped Nigeria choosing his first victory was presented to Ekong during the presser prior to the game with the suggestions that the team depends on Osimhen to win games.
“When the team plays well together, each individual shines even if you talk about the Rwanda game. I think you have to stand out more than Victor Osimhen’s game. I think there are almost all the players who can say that they play their role. The players who left the bank and also helped in the training session, including players who played out of position like Yusuf (Alhassan),” Ekong said.
“There are different factors. So I don’t think it’s right to say that we trust a player because that is not the team’s mentality. We work hard together and try to make everyone feel comfortable and when we do we achieve more as a team.”
