The Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) has fined Inter Lagos N5.25 million and deducted three points and three goals, following attacks on referees following Sunday’s 1-1 draw against visiting Katsina United. completesports.com information.

“Inter Lagos has been accused of violating the framework and rules of #NPFL27 during the matchday seven match against Katsina United on Sunday, October 4, 2026,” the league body stated.
“The Lagos club failed to provide adequate and effective security during its home match, allowing unauthorized persons to have access to restricted areas, leading to attacks on the match referees who were on their way from the dressing room to their vehicle.
“Inter Lagos also failed to ensure proper conduct of its referees and fans, resulting in the referees being held hostage for more than an hour after the match.

“Furthermore, Inter Lagos officials, in the company of some of their supporters, intimidated, harassed and verbally abused the match referees, thereby engaging in acts capable of bringing the game into disrepute.
“The Inter Lagos team manager, together with some club supporters, assaulted the match referees, resulting in the first assistant referee suffering a facial injury and loss of personal belongings, including damage to his mobile phone.
“The club is fined N2 million for failing to provide adequate and effective security and another fine of N1 million for holding the match referees hostage for more than an hour.
“Inter Lagos was also fined N2 million for assault on the match referees and an additional fine of N250,000 as compensation to the affected assistant referee for the loss of his personal belongings, damage to his mobile phone and treatment of the injury he sustained following the incident.
“Three points and three goals will be deducted from Inter Lagos’ accumulated points and goals for attacking and causing injury to the first assistant referee.
“Inter Lagos has 48 hours from the date of notification to appeal the sanctions.”
Inter Lagos is currently in 19th place with five points after seven games played so far this campaign.
