[Press Release] Vice-president of the Senate in the ninth assembly, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege welcomed the signing of the bill of the Commission for the development of the south of the southern South Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that it will accelerate the growth of the region.
He praised President Tinubu for assigned consent to the bill as he brings equity and equity to South-south against the background of topics in some neighborhoods that have tried to equate the Commission for the development of the Niger delta (NDDC) with the zonal development agencies in other parts of the country.
On March 25, 2025, the president signed the SSDC law in law together with that of the South West Development Commission (SWDC).
He said: “In truth, I am not surprised that President Tinubu has ignored the campaign from some neighborhoods to ignore the SSDC bill. Knowing the Mr. President as a man who always seeks equity and fairness, his decision strengthens his respect and commitment for the development of the Niger delta region.
“The SSDC law will further accelerate the growth of the South-south and complete the role of the IDDC that the mandate of the areas goes beyond the states of the south of the South.
“In addition, the NDDC is dedicated only to the oil producing communities in the Niger delta and in other parts of the country. President Tinubu has, giving assent to the bill, ensured that the non-oil production areas are not excluded from the renewed road map of hope for the regeneration of the country”, said Omo-Aegege in its reaction to the president of the invoice in law.
“The fascinating thing is that with all the areas that now have their development commissions, all have been put on a uniform keel and I am sure that the competitive spirit that follows the innovation between the geo-political areas.
“Some people may not know now, but what President Tinubu has done in the coming years will begin to bear fruit while the management of each commission will undertake to perform others. Lodo with all his heart in this visionary initiative that will surely have affected the effects on the search for the most perfect research of the Nigerian state”, said the president of the Senate.
In the 9th Senate, homo-aging was at the forefront in the passage of the bill of the Commission for the development of the North East in the field of efforts to reconstruct the North East which had been devastated by years of insurrection of Boko Haram. Subsequently, it was foreseen as a model for the driving of development in all regions with homo-aging that led the move to establish similar agencies in other areas as vice president of the Senate.
Other regional agencies are the Commission for the development of the North West, the South -East development commission and the North Central Development Commission.
