Niger Tornadoes coach, Kabiru Dogo, has praised his team’s performance following their 1-0 victory over Abia Warriors in their matchday 10 fixture of the 2026/2027 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba.
Dogo described the victory as a significant achievement for his team, insisting that the Niger Tornadoes deserved the result after putting in a better performance against the hosts.
According to the coach, his players executed their game plan effectively against an Abia Warriors team known for their possession-based approach, allowing the visitors to secure all three points in the encounter.
Reflecting on the 90-minute match, Dogo acknowledged the quality of Abia Warriors but maintained that his team performed better that day.
He explained that familiarity with the playing philosophies of NPFL teams, coupled with preparation based on previous matches, helped the Niger Tornadoes identify areas to exploit.
The coach revealed that his technical team studied Abia Warriors’ previous match and identified some weaknesses which they hoped to exploit in the match.
Dogo added that his team deliberately fought against the hosts to disrupt their movements and neutralize their attacking threats.
The Niger Tornadoes coach, however, insisted that his team was still a work in progress, despite the important away win.
We’re still getting there and I can’t say we’re there. We are still developing and I believe that with patience, resilience and support this team will have a bright future,” he said.
He attributed his optimism to the team’s composition, which combines young players with experienced players, expressing confidence that the mixture will help the team improve as the season progresses.
Dogo also dedicated the victory to the people of Niger State, acknowledging their support for the club.
The 1-0 win gives the Niger Tornadoes a major boost as they continue their campaign into the 2026/2027 NPFL season, while the Abia Warriors will look to bounce back from their home defeat in their next match.
