Police revealed that there were no victims in Onitsha Warehouse Fire

The Anambra State Police Command has denied reports of victims in fires that swallowed two -storey buildings that store textile materials at Ifejika Street, near the main market in Onitsha.

Speaking with the Nigeria News Agency (NAN) on Friday, Commander of the Commander of the Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, reiterated that no life was lost in the incident, as stated earlier in an official release.

During the media briefing at Awka, Police Commissioner for Anambra, Ikioye Orutugu, conveyed his sympathy to the victims affected by the warehouse fire.

“Unfortunately, before I entered the details of some important achievements recorded by orders, we want to sympathize with the victims of the warehouse fire,” Orutugu said.

He stressed that the tragedy might have been avoided with proper precautions but convincing the public that no death was recorded. He praised the quick response from the Fire Department and the Caring People who helped withstand the flames.

“The police have taken over the scene to investigate the cause of the fire and to prevent criminals from exploiting the situation to commit crimes,” he added.

Echoed the police statement, the Head of Fire Department from the Anambra Fire Department, Mr. Chukwudi Chiketa, confirmed that no life was lost in the fire incident.

“To my knowledge, there is no death. This area is mainly used for parking and warehouses of merchant goods,” Chiketa explained.

He refused the report circulating suggested the victims, urged the public to ignore the viral video that claimed the opposite. He described the recording as misleading and efforts to damage the credibility of the Security Institution and Emergency Respondents.

The authorities have convinced the public that the investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause of the fire while maintaining security at the location to prevent further incidents.
