The independent corrupt practices and other related relationships discovered huge fraud in a hospital project, revealing that complete payments have been made several times without any construction.
The president of the ICPC, Dr. Musa Aliyu, revealed it in a recent event, stating that some government officials ensured that the project had been paid five times without a single hospital being built.
“There was a case of a hospital that was paid for 100 %, five times. However, there was nothing to show for this. This tells you how serious the problem of corruption has become serious. We cannot continue like this,” said Aliyu.
The investigations revealed that, despite the multiple payments, there was no sign of the hospital project starting from anywhere in the country. The ICPC, however, has traced the suspicions involved and is working to recover the appropriate funds.
Although the Commission has not confirmed whether the culprits are pursued, the results suggest that the main objective is to recover the looted public funds.
Dr. Aliyu stressed that the fraudulent hospital project is only one of the many cases that highlights the extent of corruption in Nigeria. He invited the media and the Nigerians well intent on joining the fight against corruption, warning that if left uncontrolled, he could destroy the economy of the nation.
“We should all unite to face corruption in this country. Fighting corruption is not easy because when you fight corruption, corruption fights. The people involved are united in their evil and try to discredit our work. But as a nation, we must fight. If we do not do it, our children will have no future,” he added.
