Defense Chief of Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, had condemned the murder of 16 travelers in the state of Edo and convinced the Nigerians that the perpetrators would be taken to court.
The victims, identified as hunters, were reportedly attacked and killed by hordes in Uromi, Edo state, on March 28 when returning home from Rivers State to celebrate the end of Ramadan and Eid al -Fitr with their families.
The tragic incident has triggered widespread criticism from various northern groups, state governments, and parliamentary members.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Director of Defense Information, Brig-Gen. Tukur Gusau, CD expressed regret for the murder.
He stressed that the tragedy could be prevented if the authorities had been told correctly to verify the identity of the victims.
The statement reads: “The incident, which occurred on March 28, 2025, can be avoided if the appropriate authorities were told and involved in ensuring the identity of the victims.”

He gave a condolence to the ball President Ahmed Tinubu and their families who lost their lives.
CDs call for restraints and urge residents to avoid taking law to their own hands.
“CDs also urge Nigerians not to take the law to their hands but always return to the authorities in terms of security,” he added.
Musa assured the public that the armed forces would cooperate with the police and other security institutions to ensure that justice was served.
In addition, the Head of Defense warned the vigilante group and hunters to register with relevant security agents to regulate the ownership of firearms.
