On Friday a crowd of women flooded the area of the ABA road of Port Harcourt, asking for the restoration of the suspended governor of the state of the rivers, Siminalayi Fubara, and his deputy, Ngozi Odu.
The protest, which began the main road, and advanced to the state government of the rivers, presented signs with bold inscriptions such as “reporting Fubara back”, “Save our democracy”, “the law is different for the state of the rivers?”, And “God of justice, arising for the state of spinners”.
Singing solidarity songs, the women, who described themselves as mothers and wives, have appealed directly to President Bola Tinubu to lift the suspension on the governor Fubara and restore all the democratic institutions in the state.
They denounced what they called “unconstitutional military domains masked as a state of emergency”, insisting on the fact that rivers deserve better than what they called a non -democratic agreement.
Speaking with television channels, some demonstrators and leaders expressed their frustration for the ongoing political crisis in the state. They noticed that, despite the situation, the governor Fubara continued to work, providing the dividends of democracy.
“We are a peaceful people and we do not deserve this type of injustice. The governor has done his job despite the distractions. What is happening now is not democracy,” said one of the protesters.
The demonstration remained peaceful, with women of all ages who joined the march. Protest leaders stressed that their movement did not concern politics but on the protection of the democratic values of the state.
“We are here to defend our votes and the holiness of our democracy. This is beyond Fubara; it is of justice and future of the state of rivers,” observed one of the leaders.
The women had previously kept prayers to Isaac Boro Park before progressing with the march on ABA Road.
Fubara, his deputy, and members of the rivers assembly house were suspended following the political crisis of months in the state of oil.
Subsequently Tinubu appointed a single administrator, IBOK-ETE IBAS, to manage the affairs of the state.
