Judge CN Nwabulu of the Federal High Court, Abuja has convicted and sentenced a fake spiritualist, Solomon Odigie Moses, to one year in prison.
Moses was charged with one count of nearly defrauding and impersonating a spiritualist, thereby defrauding and obtaining the amount of $1,100 (One Thousand, One Hundred United States Dollars) from an Indian woman seeking spiritual healing.
Moses, who was arrested in Ekpoma, Edo state, received and laundered the $1,100, via his Zelle payment platform, and the Naira equivalent was paid into his local bank account.
The convict then tricked her into taking a spiritual bath naked, which he recorded live without her permission, and afterwards blackmailed her into sending him money, otherwise he would publish the video.
Investigations by the EFCC revealed that the victim had to pay a sum of $1,100 to the suspect to convince him not to release her nudity to the public.
The charge against him reads: “That you Solomon Odigie Moses (AKA DR SOLOMON) sometime in the year 2026 in Abuja, within the jurisdiction of this Honorable Court committed fraud by impersonating a spiritual leader named Dr. Solomon in a fictitious Tiktok account and obtained the sum of $1,100 (One Thousand and One Hundred Dollars) from an Indian woman named Sharon Kaur, for the purpose of prayers and spiritual assistance, thereby committing an offense contrary to Section 321 of the Criminal Code Act. (Abuja)LLFN, 1990 and punishable under Section 322 of the same Act.”
He pleaded “guilty”, after which the prosecutor, Maryam Hayatudeen, urged the court to convict and impose an appropriate sentence.
In his judgment, Justice Nwabulu convicted and sentenced Musa to one year in prison with the option of a fine of N300,000(Three Hundred Thousand Naira).
The judge further ordered that the $1,100 in crime proceeds be donated to the victim through the EFCC.
