In a turning point of fate, a 30-year-old cleric with the Evangelical church that won everything, the shepherd Samson Ali, who was kidnapped by armed men in the state of Kaduna, regained his freedom-but the man who delivered the redemption for his liberation is now in captivity.
Ali, who had only recently been sent to the Ecwa Church of Mararaba Aboro, area of the local government of Sanga in the state of Kaduna, was kidnapped by his residence on April 8, 2025.
The kidnappers had initially requested N100m for its release before being satisfied with an unscheding amount.
While the negotiations were underway, a combined team of security agents, including the staff of the Nigerian army, the police and the department of state services, was mobilized to guarantee his liberation.
However, the sources revealed that after an agreement has been reached and the redemption delivered, the kidnappers unexpectedly retained on the bearer of the redemption, identified as Yusuf Shehu Ambi, instead of issuing both men.
“The kidnappers released the shepherd Ali, but they held the redemption bearer, Yusuf Shehu Ambi, asking for more money or other concessions for his release,” said a source that is familiar with negotiations.
At the time of submitting this report, Kaduna State Police Command has not yet confirmed the development. Calls and messages sent to the Head of Public Relations of the State Police, Mansir Hassan, have not been answered.
The development has aroused disseminated reactions on social media, with many users who express concern for the deterioration of the security situation in Kaduna and in the north-western region in general.
“The kidnapping has become an profitable deal in Nigeria, and the time of the government has come that has undertaken a decisive action to face this threat,” wrote a user.
Within the ECWA community, the contrasting feelings of relief and concern followed the accident. While the members expressed gratitude for the release of the shepherd Ali, they remained anxious for the safety of Ambi.
“We are grateful that the shepherd Ali has been released, but we are worried about the possession of our brother, Yusuf Shehu Ambi,” said an official of the Church who begged anonymity.
Safety sources say that efforts are underway to trace the kidnappers and guarantee the release of Ambi.
The latest accident underlines the growing audacity of the kidnappers, who now not only require heavy ransoms, but also manipulate negotiations for further earnings, leaving families and communities in difficulty.
