Rangers cry the death of Chukwu, open condolence record

Rangers International Football Club has said that the death of its legendary captain, coach and administrator, president Christian Chukwu (MFR) has cries deeply.

The Governor of the State of ENUGU, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi MBAH, has ordered that a condolence record opens at the Nnamdi Azikiwe, ENUGU and all linking offices of the Enugu state throughout the country, in honor of the late football icon.

Chukwu died in the early hours of Saturday, April 12, 2025.

Rangers International FC General and Executive Director, CEO, Barr. Amobi Ezeaku said:

“This is a devastating loss, not only for the rangers but for the whole football family.” The “president” Christian Chukwu was an imposing figure, a symbol of resistance, excellence and leadership.

“The name ‘President’ became synonymous with its dominant presence both inside and outside the field, a title that the legendary radio station, Ernest Okonkwo and embraced by generations since then.”

“The legacy of President Chukwu is forever recorded in the history of the rangers and Nigerian football. As captain of our golden generation, he took the Rangers to several national and continental wins, and Nigeria to his first Cup of Nations of Africa Victoria in 1980.

“Later he served Nigeria as coach, guiding the Super Eagles to an end of the Bronze Medal at AFCon 2004, he trained the Kenyan national team and handled several clubs in Nigeria.”

The chief of the Rangers also added:

“Beyond his achievements, the ‘president’ Chukwu was personified humility. His passion for the growth of Nigerian football remained unwavering until his last days. He was always ready to offer wise advice, driven by love for the game and the country.

“We are committed to honoring their extraordinary legacy and ensuring that the dream he lived for, a strong and united rangers and a prosperous Nigerian football, remains.”
