40 killed in midnight attack on the Plateau community

Plateau

At least 40 people were killed and many other injuries on Monday in a midnight attack against the Zike community in the area of the local government of Bassa in the state of the plateau.

This arrives less than two weeks after the terrorists killed at least 52 people in the same area as the local government. Despite the promise of the federal government to end the senseless killings and disorders in the state, violence has continued relentlessly with attacks and reprisals.

A community leader, Wakili Tongwe, told Channels TV that the killers stormed the village in the early hours of Monday, shooting indiscriminately.

Tongwe said that his vigilantes team and some security staff members were patrols in another community when the attack took place.

He said that when his team returned to reject the attack, the attackers had killed 36 people, while four people who suffered serious injuries died later.

Those who reported injuries were taken to hospital for medical treatment.

The Polteau police spokesman, Alfred Alabo, was not reached on the phone. At the time of the press, he had not responded to an SMS sent to him.

The violence has worsened following the 2001 ethno-religious fracture between Christians and Muslims in the central-northern state.

A temporal sequence showed that almost 5,000 people had been killed in the infinite clashes between different ethnic groups in the state.

The peace construction agency (PPBA) has filed some violent accidents from 1994 to 2021. The data for the following years were collected by the media relationships.

The subsequent unrest, such as Mangu in 2023, however, were triggered by the competition between agriculture and farms of farms on limited resources.

Mangu’s violence caused more than 300 lives. It was followed by the notorious Christmas Eve attack that killed at least 150 in the nearby Barkin Ladi LGA.
