Nigeria senior national team coach Eric Chelle has picked three goalkeepers in his squad for the upcoming AFCON qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau respectively, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.
Chelle has already sent a provisional invitation letter to more than 40 players, but will reduce it to 30 after this weekend’s round of matches in several European leagues.
We can exclusively reveal that the coach chose three goalkeepers: Chippa United’s Stanley Nwabali, English Championship side Charlton’s Arthur Okonkwo and Italian Serie A side Udinese Maduka Okoye.
Okoye was promoted to first-choice rank in the absence of Nwabali, who left Chippa United after the AFCON by mutual consent, but returned just before the start of the new season.
The coach will now face a big decision to choose his number one from the duo, although sources say he prefers Okoye to continue in goal after his performances in the friendly matches against Poland and Portugal respectively.
