Former Vice President and 2023 presidential candidates from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, on Friday, shooting back to Nyesom Wike, the Minister of Federal Capital, called him a traitor and accused him of working against his party and Nigerian interests.
The accusation emerged after Wike’s recent comments during the media direction in Abuja on Friday, where he rejected the new opposition coalition spearheaded by Atiku, Peter Obi from the Labor Party, and former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, as selfish and not allied.
The coalition, which was announced on March 20, 2025, was framed by his architect as a unity front to challenge the re -election of the Tinubu Bola President in 2027. Its emergence had generated hot debate throughout the political circle, raising questions about the unity of opposition and the possibility of removing all the progressive Congress (APC).
Wike, however, is not tough in his criticism. “Those who are looking for a coalition do it for selfish interests, people like Atiku and others. Which coalition, with whom?” He asked. “Everyone wants to be president of the country, no one wants to say, ‘Let me build our party so that we will be in a formidable position.'”
He accused Atiku and the others left the PDP internal crisis, prioritizing personal ambitions rather than rebuilding the party. “You don’t do that,” Wike said. “If that doesn’t happen in their way, then it is ‘to your tent, Oh Israel.'”
Responding to Wike’s statement, Atiku’s spokesperson, Paul Ibe, described Wike as the last person to meet the requirements to talk about party sincerity or loyalty. He said Wike had betrayed the PDP by aligning with APC, all when trying to dismantle the party from inside.

“This is a man who actively works with APC to destroy and damage his own party and the interests of Nigeria,” Ibe said. “Wike has no moral authority to talk about integrity. Nothing.”
The statement did not make small talk in his criticism of the current role of Wike in the politics of the State of Rivers. “He tried to emphasize full control over the river, work in Cahoots with Abuja to disrupt the state government. How can such people give lectures to anyone about unity or sincerity?”
However, the Atiku Camp, reaffirmed its commitment to the coalition, which is described as a vehicle for the frustrated and hopeful Nigerians to retrieve their country. “The coalition is not about Atiku, Obi, or El-Rufai. This is about Nigeria,” Ibe stressed. “The people involved are only tools to achieve goals and the end is reclaiming the country that is lost from chaos and mismanagement APC.”
When the road to 2027 began to form, tension in opposition appeared far from permanent. Drama between party elders such as Atiku and Wike not only reflects the in -depth fracture in the PDP but also reveals the urgency of the Consensus Building if there is a coalition that has a real opportunity for the power of strong incumbent.
Will the new coalition survive the ego and suspicion that historically disturbs the Nigerian opposition alliance must still be seen.
