50 clubs, more than 400 participants listed for 2025 national table tennis championships in Osun

Otan Ayegbaju, a historic city in southwest Nigeria, will be the host of 50 teams of states and clubs from all over the country for the fifth edition of the National Tennis Championship of Michael and Felicia Alabi in the state of Osun.

The Tournament, sponsored by the Michael Foundation and Felicia Alabi and organized by the Osun State Table Tennis Association under the auspices of the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation (NTTF), will take place in the IDERA Multi-Purpose Hall in NATO Ayegbaju from April 27 to May 3, 2025.

The participating teams will come from several states, including lakes, Ogun, Oyo, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Taraba, Nasarawa, Abia, Adamawa, Anambra, Delta, Edo, Kwara, Kogi, Ekiti, Katsina, Niger, Zamfara and the Host State, Osun. The expected clubs include Auna Sports Club, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) and the Nigerian police force.

With more than 11.5 million at stake, the one -week tournament will take place in the newly built Michael and Felicia Alabi Memorial Table Tennis Hall.

Ayodeji Alabi, president of the OSun State Table Tennis Association, declared that the tournament aims to complement the efforts of the Federation to discover new talents and train young people throughout the country.

To improve this year’s edition, the tournament promises a combination of sports and entertainment, with several artists scheduled to act daily.

Alabi, a member of the ITTF Committee, said that all participants would be accommodated and fed throughout the event to motivate them to pay their best.

“Whoever comes to this tournament will take home a lot of happiness because we have an entertainment hall with many artists. After the games, there will be comedy shows, musical performances and well -known record discs. We are creating a diverse entertainment portfolio for all who attend,” Alabi said.

In addition, the events of and deaf will be part of this year’s edition, with athletes competing in several categories, including male single, single women, single from children, male doubles, doubles of women, mixed doubles, veteran singles, singles for open men for open women for women, simple for simple men, singles of simple and simple women.

“This year, we wait between 400 and 450 participants, and we will house them and feed them for free.”

“This year’s tournament is different because we have created an environment where participants will sleep and eat well,” Alabi added.
