In a significant policy reversal, Defense Minister Mohammed Badaru had threw his weight behind the coming National Security Summit initiated by the National Assembly, calling him a “timely initiative to overcome Nigerian security problems that developed.”
Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Sunday, Badaru promised his full support and active participation in the two -day event, committed to help ensure that the Summit recommendations were implemented effectively.
“When you hold the peak, you hear people talking, gathering perspectives, and taking the insight back to review and strengthen our strategy, which is translated into action. That’s how changes occur,” Badaru said.
His ratification marked a sharp departure from the comments he made last Wednesday at a Briefing between meters, where he seems to reduce the peak value that supports only developing a new security strategy. He also challenged the statement of the House of Representatives that the rebels used more sophisticated weapons than the Nigerian military.

The previous statement of the Minister of Defense withdrew a strong reprimand from the Senate on Thursday, which warned him not to make a statement that could trigger tension between executive and legislative branches.
Now adopting a more reconciliation tone, Badaru acknowledged the need for an inclusive dialogue and decision making to overcome complex security landscapes in the country.
“I will participate in the National Assembly Security Summit and ensure that any results from the Summit are translated into actions and lead to real results. This is a praiseworthy step towards an inclusive policy making,” he added.
With the Minister of Defense now on the ship, the hope is high that the Summit will function as a significant step towards a coordinated national effort to fight insecurity.
