The police officer arrested for computer crime escapes from Ogun’s custody

A service officer of the Nigeria Police Force, the agent Idris Oloyede, was declared sought after by the Ogun State Police Command after fleeing the case just five hours after his arrest for alleged involvement in IT crime and other criminal activities.

The Times platform reports that Oloyede, popularly known as “Abuja” and connected to the headquarters of the Oededa Division Police, was arrested around 18:10 on Wednesday 21 May, by the agents of the anti-kidnapping unit.

According to reports, it was also studied by conspiracy, robbery, stealing and helping computer crime operations in the state.

The command, in a signal, revealed that the officer fled around 11:30 pm during a “investigation” mission with the detectives in Odeda Township.

“The police officer Idris Oloyede, aka Abuja, under investigation by the agents of the anti-kidnapping unit of the Ogun state for conspiracy, robbery and theft crimes, fled the team while inquiry in Odeda Township at about 2330Hrs of May 21, 2025”, the signal has read.

The declaration also observed that Oloyed was declared sought after and anyone who has useful information on where it was reported to the nearest police station or deliver it to the Division Police Officer in Olda.

The platform has collected that Oveloyed’s arrest followed a confession from a suspicion already in custody that said that the officer provided him with two Facebook accounts and an MTN SIM card used to perpetrate online fraud.

A research of follow-up at the agent’s private rental residence, located behind the police barracks in Odeda, led to the recovery of the iPhones and several SIM cards which are believed to be connected to illegal activities.

The preliminary investigations have revealed Oloyede’s ties with a computer crime union.

He was delivered to the anti-kidnapping unit at the State Criminal Investigation Department (Scid), Eleweran, Abokuta, before escaping.

This accident adds to the growing concerns for criminal infiltration in the ranks of Nigeria’s security agencies.

Ogun’s state command has undertaken to intensify the efforts to reorganize the officer on the run and make it to justice.
