The National President of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, expressed profound pain for the tragic death of 20 young athletes from the state of Kano who lost their lives in a fatal accident while returning from the National Sports Festival in Abekuta, in the state of Ogun.
In a statement issued by his main press secretary, Edwin Olofu, Ganduje described the accident as a heartbreaking tragedy that has inflicted a serious blow not only to families in mourning and the people of the State of Kano, but to the entire nation.
He described the deceased athletes as promising and dedicated young people who embody the future of Nigerian sports and the pride of the state of Kano.
“This is a deeply painful moment. These young athletes have traveled in the spirit of unity, patriotism and excellence to represent our state and nation. Losing them in such a tragic and premature way is a devastating national loss,” said Ganduje.
The national president APC has extended its deepest condolences to mourning families, the government and the people of the State of Kano and the wider Nigerian sports community.
He offered prayers for the peaceful rest of the souls of the deceased, comfort and strength for those who left behind.
Ganduje, who is currently having Hajj in Saudi Arabia, has also invited the competent authorities to investigate the cause of the accident and implement stronger security protocols to protect Nigerian athletes during future national positions.
“It can omnipotent Allah (SWT) grant families the strength to endure this irreparable loss and grant eternal rest to the deceased souls,” he added.
