Nigeria’s sub-17 national team, the flamenco, received a test raffle but tempting for the FIFA Women’s World Cup U-17 2025.
Attracted in Group D, Nigeria will face France, Canada and Samoa in a tournament that begins on October 17 in Rabat, Morocco.
The official draw ceremony took place on Wednesday at the Mohammed VI football academy in Rabat.
This is the first edition of the tournament on African soil.
The 2025 edition will also open a new land as the first to present 24 teams, expanding the global scope and competition level of the cadet tournament.
Group D: a mixture of fire, familiarity and newcomers
The Nigeria group offers a mixture of heavy and debutants:
France – Consistently strong at all youth levels and always a threat, Les Bleuettes provides technical quality and tournament experience.
Canada – A solid American side with strong athletics.
Samoa – Making their debut at this level, they are the dark horse of the group, but surprises could arise.
The flamenco will make their eighth appearance in the competition and will continue to be one of the most consistent African sides in youthful women’s football.
Having finished third in 2022, expectations are high so that Nigeria at least coincides or exceeds that performance.
Host nation, global defenders and giant champions fill other groups
On the other hand, the raffle revealed a tournament full of pedigree and emotion:
Group A: The hosts of Morocco face Brazil, Italy and Costa Rica
Group B: The defenders of Korea DPR quad against Mexico, Cameroon and the Netherlands
Group C: United States, Ecuador, China and Norway are face to face
Group E: Spain, Colombia, Republic of Korea and Ivory Coast

African tournament and milestone structure
The expanded 24 teams means that the two best teams in each of the six groups, along with the four best third -place teams, will qualify for the 16 round.
This year’s edition is also the beginning of a new era: Morocco will be the host of the Women’s World Cup Under-17 annually until 2029. Let the path to Rabat 2025 begin.
