Ohanaze said Igbos would not join the 12 June protest

Apex IgBO’s socio-political organization, Ohanaze Ndigbo Worldwide, has stated that people in Southeast will not participate in the proposed protest of democracy on June 12 scheduled for Thursday throughout the country.

The group, in a statement issued on Monday by the Vice President General, Mazi Okechukwu Committee, stated that the decision not to participate in the June 12 protest was not born from indifference, but a calculated maneuver that aims to protect the life and the characteristics of IGBO people.

He insisted that no protests were permitted throughout the southeast until the Nigerian government adequately answered their collective questions.

The statement reads: “We want to convey an important reality, and may be uncomfortable for the organizers of national protests.

“There is a round consensus between Ndigbo regarding our rejection to be involved in all forms of protests, both in our region and in other areas in Nigeria where IGBO lives.

“In addition, it is very important to tell the public that the Klandestin plot is reportedly made up in Abuja, Kaduna, Maiduguri, and lagos by non-patriotic politicians and non-democratic elements that are immoral.

“It seems that there is an intention to take advantage of this national protest as a destabilization instrument to the administration of President Tinubu, all while trying to make IGBO as an enemy of the state. This does not have to stand unmatched.

“Historical evidence revealed that during such a struggle, Igbos had cruelly reportedly and consumed in a sacrificed manner in the madness of national riots.

“During the 65 years after independence, we have witnessed our people suffering disproportionally in anti-government protests, which were highlighted by a wave of unfavorable violence.

“Combining this extraordinary challenge is a problem of severe insecurity which includes southeast, which makes all forms of protest not only unwise but also dangerous.

“In addition, it is very important to emphasize that we, as IGBOS, will not be involved in national protests until our urgent demands are handled, especially the liberation of all IGBO consciences who are illegally in various detention centers.”
