Obsur Court of Former Gov Ishaku objected to the trial of the alleged N27BN fraud

Judge Sylvanus Orji from the Federal Capital High Court (FCT), MAITAMA, on Wednesday rejected the objections submitted by the former Governor of the State Taraba, Darius Ishaku, for receiving several documents in his trial due to alleged N27 billion fraud.

The Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) charged a former governor along with a former permanent secretary, bureau for local governments and school principals in the state, Bello Yero, on charges of 15-calculations on violations of trust, conspiracy, and conversion of public funds.

They, however, claimed to be innocent for the accusation.

Previously, Ishaku’s adviser, Paul Ogbole (SAN), had objected to the documents to be tendered by the prosecution through the first prosecution witness (PW1).

Judges, however, reject objections because they do not meet the necessary legal provisions.

He argued that PW1’s statement at EFCC after his arrest was not in conflict with the law because he was not a suspect or defendant in the case.

Orji said: “Provisions of section 15 (4) and 17 (2) of the administration of the Criminal Court Law, 2015 were made by the Legislative Body to complete the 29 (1) Evidence Law.”

He asked whether the legal counsel wanted to be given a trial-test to ensure the volunteerism of the statement.

“The objection was rejected and the statement received as evidence,” he said.

He then postponed this problem until July 2 for PW1 cross -examination and the continuation of the problem.
