Food safety: the agricultural ministry clarifies the note of viral staff on prayer sessions

The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Safety reacted to a relationship that goes around social media, suggesting that a recent staff prayer session was an official strategy to face national food safety challenges.

The Ministry said that the internal prayer initiative did not aim to replace or undermine significant and ongoing efforts to achieve food and nutritional safety for Nigeria.

The Ministry in a press declaration signed by the official information assistant, Ezeaja Ikemefuna for the Director, Information, declared Saturday that the prayer initiative – formulated “Divine intervention for protection and national development” was organized internally by the Human Resources Management Department in response to the recent deaths of various staff members.

The declaration stated: “The prayer was to face staff learning for recent premature and subsequent deaths of the members of the Ministry of the Ministry”.

According to the declaration, “the staff also considered out of place to pray for the country”.

The Ministry stressed that this move was not part of any formal political directive, but rather one of the numerous welfare initiatives: monthly Aerobic sessions Altea and a recently established gym, aimed at the well -being of staff members.

By reiterating his commitment for agricultural development, the Ministry has highlighted a series of programs implemented in the context of the renewed agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

These, said the ministry, included:

● Distribution of over 1,000 tractors to support mechanized agriculture;
● Distribution of over 100,000 tons of cereals and rice for market stabilization;
● donation of 2.15 million bags of fertilizers by the Nigeria central bank to face food inflation;
● Ricattization of the Agriculture Bank for an amount of ₦ 1.5 trillion;
● Launch of the National Electronic Extension Platform (Neep) to modernize the awareness of farmers;
● Rehabilitation project of the rural roads supported by $ 600 million in progress by $ 600 million (RAAMP); AND,
● Distribution of critical inputs to farmers through the National Agricultural Growth Scheme Agro Task (NAGS-AP).

The Ministry also revealed its partnership with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to improve the integrity of farmers’ data and access to resources.
