Tinubu ordered the Head of Security to Restore Peace in Benue, the Task of the Government

The President of the Ball Ahmed Tinubu has directed Nigerian security head to quickly implement his previous mandate which aims to restore peace and security to the state of Benue.

This follows a brutal retaliation attack that claims a number of lives in Yelewata, the Guma regional government in the state.

In a statement issued on Sunday by a special advisor about information and strategies, Bayo onanuga, the President also demanded that the Governor of Hyacinth Alia by immediately beginning reconciliation and dialogue between the conflicting people to stem a wave of violence in an agrarian country.

The new violence, which erupted Friday night, killed at least 100 people and dozens were more injured, according to Amnesty International and local reports. Armediac, believed to be an armed shepherd, attacked Yelewata Village, burned houses and fired in residents through early Saturday. Many victims are internal refugees who previously fled from attacks in the nearest community.

Since then, security agents have launched hunting, but residents remain restless, afraid of arrest attacks, especially as a rainy season, when increasing tension over land use, will take place. ‘

“In the direction of the President, the Head of Intelligence, Police and Military had arrived in the state to coordinate security operations and restore sanity,” Onanuga’s statement said.

Describing violence as “inhuman and anti-progress,” President Tinubu warned that the murder cycle should not survive. He urged political leaders and society to fight the temptation of inflammatory rhetoric, emphasizing that their words can alleviate tension or improve it.

“The latest news about naughty murder in the state of Benue is very sad. We must not let this bloodshed continue. Sufficiently enough now,” the President said.

“I have directed security institutions to act decisively and arrest these evil actors on all sides of the conflict and demand them. Political figures and the community must act responsibly. This is the time for Governor Alia to act as statesmen and lead the process of reconciliation and peace development.”

The statement of President Tinubu emphasizes the need for harmony among farmers, shepherds, and local communities, groups that are often locked in deadly disputes over land, shepherd rights, and survival.

“Our people must live in peace, and maybe when leaders throughout divide work together in harmony, and differences are aimed at justice, openness, and justice,” said Tinubu.

The President’s new instructions came for almost a month after the defense staff Chief, General Christopher Musa, said that during the security briefing at the President’s villa that the military cooperated with the Governor to ensure a greater synergy in combating insecurity throughout Nigeria.

“The President also saw the aspect of discussing with the governor for their support and ensuring that democratic dividends reached the grassroots as a means to overcome the insecurity,” General Musa noted.
