Irec refuses the Notice of PDP for the meeting of 30 June – Thage

The Independent National Electoral Commission (Iner) rejected the notice of the Democratic Party (PDP) for its next meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) scheduled for June 30, 2025.

In a letter signed by the secretary to the acting of the Commission, Kabiru Idris, Iner, said that the notice did not comply with the requirements outlined in part 2 (12) 3 of its regulations and guidelines of 2022 for political parties.

The regulation establishes that the notices for these meetings must be jointly signed both by the National President and by the National Secretary of the Party before being subjected to the Commission.

“The Commission attracts your attention according to which the notice does not comply with the requirement of part 2 (12) 3 of the regulations and guidelines for political parties, 2022, which provides that the national president and the national secretary of the party jointly signs the notice of convention, congress, congress or meeting and undergo the same commission. The PDP had previously written on INC through a letter dated 30 May 2025, notifying the electoral body of its planned NEC meeting.

The letter, which was signed by the party national president of the party, Umar Iliya Damagum, said:

“We write to formally inform and invite the Independent National Electoral Commission (INC) that the leadership of our large party, the Democratic Party of people (PDP), has scheduled our 100th meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) to hold information and actions.
