IMO Elections: Oyetola Flags off the Nigeria election campaign in London. – Thage

In a large diplomatic move on the sidelines of the 110th session of the Maritime Security Committee (MSC 110), Nigeria has officially reported its campaign for the election to the International Council of the Maritime Organization (IMO) in the C category for the two-year period 2026-2027.

The flag of the high -profile campaign, led by the honorable Minister of Nigeria for the Marine and Blue Economy, his excellence Adgboyega Oyetola, the Con, and the high commissioner of Nigeria in the United Kingdom, took place at the headquarters in London.

In his key speech, Minister Oyetola extended the warm greetings of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and underlined Nigeria’s constant dedication to the mandate of the soul.

“Today, we formally declare Nigeria’s candidacy for the re-election to the IMO Council in category C for the two-year period 2026-2027,” he announced. “As a strategically responsible maritime nation located in the Gulf of Guinea-A more significantly significant and sensitive to the world-the-la Nigeria shipping routes, it remains resolved in supporting the mandate of the soul to promote a safe, safe, ecological, efficient and sustainable expedition.”

Oyetola highlighted the acclaimed Blue Deep Blue project as a maritime security innovation model. Coordinated by the Agency for the Maritime Administration and Nigerian security (Nimasa), the most levels integrate air, terrestrial and maritime activities to protect Nigeria’s maritime domination. The implementation of the Deep Blue project observed Minister Oyetola, has led to zero accidents of piracy in the territorial waters of Nigeria in the last three years, a milestone that has attracted global praise, including the International Maritime Office (IC).

“We are investing in maritime education and in the development of skills, with the potential to contribute to over two million maritime maritime to the global work pool in the next decade,” he said.

“A vote for Nigeria is a vote for the representation, collaboration and balance of the decision -making process in global maritime governance,” he said. “We are ready to work with all Member States to build a safer, green and more inclusive maritime future.”

Speaking also to the event, the general manager of Nimasa, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, reiterated the lasting role of Nigeria in the international maritime community.

“Nigeria is proud to be a busy and reliable global partner in making maritime safety advance, promoting environmental responsibility and guarantees an equitable and equitable participation in the government of international shipments,” he said.

The event attracted an illustrious audience, including the Secretary General of the Eme, Mr. Arsenio Dominguez, as well as permanent representatives, alternative permanent representatives, diplomats and maritime delegates from over 170 Member States IMO.

All 176 Member States should vote in the elections scheduled for November/December 2025
