Tiger Base: Domination Terror, Rebuilding Trust in IMO

The anti-kidnapping unit in the state of imo, popularly known as “Tiger base”, was at the center of a quiet revolution. Despite having to face significant criticism from some activists for human rights and discontented individuals, the unity, which operates in a long state afflicted by criminal unions, bandits and a pervasive distrust in the police, is offering significant results.

Since the CSP Ola Odeyeyiwa took command, he and his team challenged skepticism. They mounted a resolute campaign to block organized crime and restore public trust, offering a series of operational successes that are not only impressive but deeply reassuring for the people of the IMO state.

Crushing the unions of kidnapping, saving life

One of the most significant results of the unit took place on June 21, 2025, following the kidnapping of Mr. Anayo Iwuoha from his Akabo residence in the area of the local government of Ikeduru. Using a sophisticated intelligence, the agents tracked down the kidnappers to their hiding place in Ochii Ogwa, Mbaitol Lga. In a bold raid, the team successfully saved Mr. Iwuoha unharmed and arrested two notorious bosses, Uche Nwachukwu and Chinonso Ozuruigbo. The raid also produced an arsenal of weapons, including a pump-action pistol, live cartridges, an improvised explosive device and even the chains used to retain the victim. This operation was a clear message that the kidnappers will not find any sanctuary in the state of imo.

Decimating terrorist cells iPob/ESN

Between 19 and 23 October 2024, the Anti-Kidnapping unit provided decisive shots to the indigenous prohibited of militant fields Biafra (iPob)/Eastern Security Network (ESN) in Oru-East and Oru-West LGA. By acting in credible intelligence, they broke into terrorist hide and seek, with consequent arrest of over 20 suspicions and the recovery of a cache of fatal weapons, explosives and criminal accessories. This rigorous repression led to the dismantling of different fields and the neutralization of the major threats posed by these groups. The recovered weapons included five pistol pistols, firearms at local level, granate and 60 cartridges lives, highlighting the serious threat that these organizations represented to national safety.

Quote, operations, proactive police

Under the severe directives of the State Police Chief, Abaki Danjuma, the anti-kidnapping unit has gone from a reactive model to a proactive police model. On August 21, 2024, the agents successfully saved a woman kidnapped by the Obinze forest, arrested five suspicions and recovered dangerous weapons, including a gun with pump and battles. Likewise, the operations led by intelligence on 11 October 2024 led to the bust of a union responsible for both the kidnappings and armed robberies in Mbaise. The suspicions were not only arrested, but also contributed to identifying vehicle receivers within an elaborate criminal network, leading to the dismantling of a deeply coordinated operation.

Changing the narrative

Operating with a philosophy focused on visibility, credibility and results, the basic unit of Tiger has shown inter-agency synergy without rivals, collection of tactical intelligence and quick response. This approach actually launched the security script in the IMO state. Despite the criticisms in progress, the unit continues to give priority to public safety, working firmly to make the state a safer environment.

Eze Fabian Nworgu, a traditional sovereign in the state, attested to the impact of unity, stating that the critics of their activities are mainly political that exploit criminals to cause chaos. The 70 -year -old sovereign observed that since the tiger base was dug by the department of state criminal investigations (Scid), many residents have “issued a sigh of relief”. He added: “Although we are aware of the fact that the criticisms about the unit are mainly based on their commendable efforts to combat criminal activities of kidnappers and other crimes in the state, they should be encouraged to continue fighting for all and not be discouraged by people by people with selfish personal interests”.
