The United States warned its citizens to avoid public places in the territory of the federal capital, Abuja, for reasons not disclosed.
The US mission in Nigeria has increased the security notice on Monday, urges citizens to avoid all visits not essential to the government and military structures in the FCT.
The consultant did not mention any specific threat.
The threat notice comes between the growing concerns for global security and the growing geopolitical tensions in several regions.
“The American embassy is carefully monitoring the situation and recommends American citizens to avoid non -essential visits to government buildings and military sites in Abuja up to new notice,” said the mission in its official declaration.
The notices calls US citizens who reside or travel to Nigeria to stay vigilant, update their travel plans and remain informed through local news and official channels of the Nigerian government.
In line with similar warnings from other Western governments, consultancy said that there has been an intense need for situational awareness.
The US mission also reminded its citizens of existing travel protocols and has encouraged registration with the registration program for intelligent travelers (Step) to ensure that they receive the latest safety updates and emergency support.
