The crisis of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) aggravated on Friday when the State Presidents Forum supported the suspension of the national president, Alhaji Shehu Gabam.
The national president of the party and two other members of the National Work Committee (NWC) were suspended last Tuesday by some members of the NWC for accusations of undue financial appropriation.
The secretary of the national party advertising, Rufus Aiyenigba, signed the suspended declaration Gabam.
Briefing journalists in Abuja Friday, president of the State of Sdp Lagos and president of the Forum of State Presidents, the Hon. Femi Olaniyi Ferari, he said he was in support of the suspension of the national president and that the national president and the others suspended should be investigated.
“We fully support the decision of the national working committee to suspend the national president, Shehu Musa Gabam; the auditor of national accounts, Clarkson Nnadi; and the national youth leader, Ogbonna Chukuwma, while this aligns with the feelings expressed by our basic members.
“The fight against corruption must be authentic and the opening is vital in the SDP. Given the current situation of our country and the current bad administration of the government, we must support our principles of social justice and zero tolerance for corruption,” said the group.
The forum expressed concern about what he called “the unilateral and autocratic leadership style of Gabam, in particular in his interactions with the Presidents of State and members of the National Work Committee”.
The group then asked for an immediate investigation on all the accusations in a transparent and honest way.
