The set of ex-student of 1971-1975 of government secondary school, Omu-Aran, Kwara State-Noto such as the set of Gateway-is destined to mark its 50th anniversary on Friday 4 July, with a series of Legacy and events projects that celebrate five decades of lasting brotherhood, academic excellence and community development.
In a declaration issued to Ilorin, the president of the central planning committee, prof. Tajudeen Akanji has announced that the celebration of the milestone will be held in style with activities designed to honor the past, celebrate the present and build for the future.
Prof. Akanji revealed that the highlight of the Golden Jubilee will include the commissioning of key infrastructures and development projects donated by the former students to the school.
The day will also present a visit to its real height, the Omu-Aran’s olomu, as well as a symbolic municipal walk to reaffirm the group’s link with the community.
According to him, the government of the state of Kwara has expressed interest in collaborating with the Alumni group to improve school structures, a gesture that underlines the growing role of private citizens and former students in the revitalization of public education in the state.
As part of the academic offers for the day, a public conference entitled “National Development and the Imperative of Peace and Security” will be delivered by Comrade Isa Aremu, general manager of the Michael IMoudu National Institute for Labor Studies, Ilorin.
The school drama company is also billed to stage a stimulating comedy entitled “Flight ticket”.
The major retired general Yemi Abidoye will preside over the event, which should attract the best dignitaries, including representatives of the state government, the royal fathers and a myriad of illustrious old students who have excellent in various professions.
Alumni di prominent foreseen at the event include Bishop Caleb Atolagbe; Former MD by Harmony Securities, Alhaji Mufutaudeen Balogun; Dr. Dele Ige; Dr. Segun Dogunro; Dr. Depo Agboola; Kayode Adeoti engineers, Dauda Awojobi and Jacob Oyedepo; Captain of the Marina Yekini Mustafa; Head Stephen Ayelabola; Mr. Tunji Oyinloye; Adegoke Holrewaju; James Aina; Prof. Funsho Afolayan; and Prof. Olabode Bamgbola, among others.
Prof. Akanji observed that the anniversary is not only a meeting but “a platform to return, reflect on our trip and collectively model the future of education in our Alma Mater”.
The celebration promises to be a mixture of nostalgia, civic involvement and forward -looking conversations, while the set of Gateway returns where it all started, combined with the purpose and engaged in the inheritance.
