Breaking: Jamb reveals signs of interruption for admission to the University, Polytechnics, others

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (Jamb), in collaboration with the heads of tertiary institutions and other key interested parties, has set the minimum cutting scores for admission to the highest institutions of Nigeria for the academic session of 2024/2025.

During the Jamb policies meeting of 2025 held on Tuesday in Abuja, it has been agreed that the minimum cutting sign for universities will be 150, while the polytechnics and education colleges will admit candidates with scores starting from 100. For college of nursing sciences, the minimum score has been set at 140.

The meeting, chaired by the Minister of Education, Prof. Maruf Alausa, attended Vice Cancellieri, Rectors, devices and heads of regulatory agencies in the education sector.

Jamb’s chancellor, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, stressed that the agreed scores are the minimum thresholds and that no institution is authorized to go down below. However, the institutions maintain the autonomy to establish higher reference parameters according to the competitiveness of their individual programs.

“This policy reflects the reality of our educational system and the need to align the admission processes with merit, equity and ability,” said Oloyede.

He added that the decision aims to promote equity, quality and access throughout the educational system, while supporting national standards. The institutions are expected to complete their admission processes within the approved timing and refer to Jamb for central processing.

Jamb reiterated in a declaration: “The minimum eligible scores for admissions for the next academic session were set at 150 for universities, 100 for the Polytechnics, 100 for the universities of education and 140 for colleges of nursing sciences by the interested parties.”
