Opinion: Shettima orphans, divided presidential and battle in front

Nigerian Vice President, Alhaji Hashim Mohammed Shettima, was an orphan in the presidency of ‘Emi Lo’ from Alhaji Bola Ahmed Tinubu. And this is regardless of the reality of Muslims – Muslims at the peak of state government. There was a concern ahead of the 2023 election when the same presidential faith ticket was debated, and then actualized. Other adherents of faith, especially Christians, are worried and announced the combination. They said it ran against wheat and political conventions to pair candidates for positions at the highest level in our country. They argue that the step is not sensitive, coming when the country was consumed and inflamed with accusations of plot to Nigeria Islamise.

But the combination promoters, the decision of all the progressive congress [APC] Political parties, reject such concerns, say that the fear of the dominance of the state by Islam and Muslims is baseless and red haring fish. They pointed out in 1993 when Moshood Abiola and Baba-Gana Kingibe ran with a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket, and drove towards victory before the military junta who was in power led by the General[rtd] Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida canceled the selection process and captured the results whose announcements were almost complete. Now the late Prof. Humphrey Nwosu is the Chairperson of the Dead National Election Commission [NEC] It is to do the election that is still widely considered the most free and most credible election in the history of the country more than 30 years later. Instructive that since 1993, no less than seven national elections have been carried out by the successor ‘independent’ election commission [INEC] But nothing is recognized as free, fair and credible. But this is Nigeria. Life continues.

Part of the argument of Muslim-Muslim ticket supporters is that it will bring harmony to the presidency. But people know that it was driven by a search to harvest votes in all parts of the northern suspected of having a Muslim majority. However, there are some prominent problems. In Nigeria we live together, and label, and we play identity politics. Shettima first [is] Kanuri, not Fulani who is usually preferred. Fulani is not a majority country in the north but they dominate the political office in part of the Nigerian gap. In reality they are a minority minority, but through reason and conquest, they dominate and control the political and economic height of our country. Perhaps, two things might recommend their choice for the position of Muslim vice presidential candidates and the fact that Tinubu will be more comfortable with stooge as a running partner. In his first life as the Governor of the State Lagos from 1999-2007, Tinubu used no less than three deputy governors for eight years of his task. He certainly did not want to repeat it in the President, and therefore had to be satisfied with a figure who was easily forged. Or that’s how he thought. However, from the beginning, Tinubu had stated that even before he accessed the office that his presidency was about himself as part of his Joruba country. Another person will only be a polluting smuggler, as the lawyer said. So Shettima, AB Initio, is a necessary but uncomfortable crime.

We said many things in this room April 29. Our permission to repeat the quote from the intervention. We wrote: ‘Alhaji Mohammed Kashim Shettima is Nigeria’s nominal vice president … it is not important to explain the use of my’ nominal ‘to the current vice president. In this context, I really intend to use daily words. Nominal here means that Shettima as a small vice president and is not important in the number and title. He is a token and symbol, not substantial or significant in the scheme of things in the Alhaji Bola Ahmed Tinubu regime and part of the Joruba nation. Shettima spoke well in the context of the low bar specified to speak in public in our country … he was said to be smart and maybe a public intellectual … and the man, Shettima, who said [that] He will lead the war against rebels, bandits and Islamic terrorists have become ghosts. He looks like a comet from space occasionally ‘to do some harsh work. Under one -the administrator of Tinubu, Shettima did not count. Actually he doesn’t exist.

“It is very embarrassing that this country spent about the new N20 billion to complete the vice presidential house for ghost workers. That is who shettima [has been]. One day he tried hard to ignore the media report that he was closed from the president’s villa. Who cares? The important thing is that ghosts are not allowed to roam, and freely. Shettima situation was sad. He is a truly nominal vice president who is beyond the vortex power. He is an orphan. He Kanuri. Kanuri is said to be the creator of Boko Haram [the Islamist insurgent terrorists who have terrorised a swath of the northern region]. He is not part of Tinubu’s kitchen cabinet. He is a paria who explains why regardless of the frequent foreign journey of President Tinubu, he was never allowed to act as a president. Shettima was even ignored in a ceremony that was not dangerous to inaugurate a team that was not striking in the population census when the President, as usual, was going in France ‘.

However, Shettima who seemed to bid for his time returned from last week’s death to speak at a book presentation by Mohammed Adoke, Attorney General and Minister of Justice in the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan [2010-2015]. If he is smart, and we have no reason to believe the opposite and, if he is a public intellectual, once again we have no clear reason to doubt the bona fide, then he must be very aware of the weight and implications of the words he said at the event. He is funny but he dropped a few words for the maximum impact. Sometimes in the cause of the event, it will be difficult not to notice that he talks about the personality chief who is physically present. The listeners are in other places, and that place is Aso Rock Villa, his political class, political party and Nigeria. There is a background of the Shettima battle. About a month ago, APC stakeholders in the state of Gombe in the heart of the Northeast Region of Shettima held a meeting where they supported Tinubu for the second term and left Shettima. Hell broke. Shettima supporters will not have it and the fight broke. A few days later the presidency confirmed that the exception of Shettima was settled. It is said that Tinubu will choose his partner for 2027 after the party nomination convention. In other words, where shettima on the ticket is not guaranteed. With the allegations that were closed from the villa, non-endorsement in the gombe, non-communication statements from the presidency that interfere with expression, the public requested the retention of Shettima, and the public lobby for the future position with APC ranking, it was almost clear that Shettimima would soon come out.

So if Shettima will go down as happened, then he will do it fighting, and stands. That might explain the attack that was not too smooth in Tinubu last week. At no less than three opportunities during his speech, he threw thorns at his school principal. He said there was no president who had constitutional power to remove the elected governor of the state, even members of the elected local government council. Tinubu did it earlier this year when he suspected the Governor of the State Rivers and unpacked all democratic structures in the country for six months. He thanked the writer and several other senior lawyers for telling President Jonathan that it would be illegal for him to delete Shettima like that at that time the Governor of the State Borno as he had pondered. It was also an indictment of the Attorney General Tinubu because it allowed the dismissal of the Governor of the State Rivers. In the same way Shettima also condemned the National Assembly for supporting Tinubu’s illegal actions. He reportedly called the Deputy Governor of the State Kogi as a ‘bloody representative’, the conclusion of how he himself was treated as vice president. In addition, the categorical Shettima described Nasir El-Rufai’s night, Tinubu enemy that could not be fulfilled lately and the opposition arrows of the Tinubu re-election offer, as ‘changing games’ [not a game-changer] In the ongoing political scenario. He said El-Rufai could not be expected.

Last Friday, a Vice President’s assistant, Stanley Nkwocha, claimed that Shettima’s speech was interpreted and misinterpreted by the media, insisting that there was no gap in the presidency. “It is very disappointing that some media outlets have twisted the vice president’s speech into a comment about the new suspension from Governor Siminaayi Fubara from Rivers State. This is a deliberate reading error from Shettima’s statement and careless efforts for Stoke Division. President Tinubu did not delete Governor Fubara. Well, the journey to the 2027 election will be long and boring for the gladiator.
