The Trump administration shoots Maurene Comey, prosecutor or …

The Department of Justice fired Maurene Comey, daughter of the former FBI director James Comey and a federal prosecutor in Manhattan who worked on the cases against Sean “Diddy” Combs and Jeffrey Epstein, three people who are familiar with the issue told the Associated Press Wednesday.

There was no specific reason given for its dismissal, according to one of the people. They spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity to discuss staff issues.

Maurene Comey was a veteran lawyer in the southern district of New York, he considered the most elite of the judicial offices of the Department of Justice for a long time. His cases included the accusation of Epstein sex trafficking, who killed himself behind the bars in 2019 while he was waiting for a trial, and the recent case against Combs, which ended at the beginning of this month with a mixed verdict.

He did not immediately reply to the messages in search of comments on Wednesday.

It is the last move by the Department of Justice to shoot the lawyers without explanations, which has raised alarm for a contempt for the protections of the civil service designed to prevent interruptions for political reasons.

The Department of Justice also fired a number of public ministries who worked on cases that caused the anger of President Donald Trump, including some who managed the cases and lawyers of US chapters and the support staff who worked on the special trump procedures of the consultant for consultant Jack Smith.

Maurene Comey has long been seen as a potential target given the relationship of her father in the last decade with the republican president. The Department of Justice recently appeared to recognize the existence of an investigation into James Comey, although the basis for this investigation is not clear.

More recently, it was the prosecutor’s office between six public ministries in the case of sex and racket traffic against the combs. The inability to condemn the Hip-Hop magnate of the main accusations, while earning a sentence for the accusations related to prostitution which will probably lead to a prison sentence of a few years, has been seen by some lawyers as a rare defeat by the ministries.

But it has been successful in numerous other judicial proceedings, in particular the condemnation of Ghislaine Maxwell for the accusations of sex trafficking for having helped the financier Epstein sexually abusing minor girls. In this case, during the closure he held a refuted discussion, as he did in the case of the combs.

His dismissal comes when the prosecutor General Pam Bondi faces intense criticism from some members of the Trump base for the decision of the Department of Justice not to issue further evidence in possession of the government from the investigations on the sex trafficking of Epstein. Some right -wing internet personalities, such as Laura Loomer, who criticized the management of Epstein’s files by Bondi, asked for Maurene Comey’s fire.

James Comey was the director of the FBI when Trump entered office in 2017, having been appointed by the then president Barack Obama and served previously as an official of the Senior Justice Department in the administration of President George W. Bush. But his relationship with Trump was aimed from the beginning and the director of the FBI resisted a request from Trump during a private dinner to commit personal loyalty to the president – an overwhelming that has thus nervous by the director of the FBI who documented it in a contemporary memorandum.

Trump immediately after having fired Comey in the midst of an investigation into the potential links between Russia and Trump’s presidential campaign. That investigation, subsequently detected by the special consultant Robert Mueller, in the end he would have discovered that while Russia interfered with the 2016 elections and the Trump team welcomed help, there were no sufficient evidence to demonstrate a criminal collaboration.

Trump’s fury to the old Comey continued for a long time after shooting him from the bureau, blaming him for a “hoax” and “witch hunt” that shaded a large part of his first term.

Comey revealed contemporary memo of her conversations with Trump to a friend so that their content could be revealed to the media and the following year he published a book that calls Trump “ego guided” and comparing it to a mafia. Trump, for his part, accused Comey and other tranatory officials. [AP]
