Nans demanded a full disclosure of the death of the AAUA murder suspect in police custody

The National Nigerian Student Association (NANS), a Joint Campus Committee (JCC), Ondo Axis, has called for a comprehensive and transparent investigation of the sudden death of the main suspect in the murder of two Ajasin Adekunle University students, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) while in police custody.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Chairman of Ondo JCC, a friend of Adeques Mayomi Adeboye, expressed concern over the unjected situation around the death of the suspect and emphasizing the need for full accountability to ensure justice was seen.

“With a tough heart and in -depth concern that I spoke to you today as Chair of the National Nigerian Student Association (Nans), Committee of the Joint Campus (JCC), Ondo State.

“The tragic loss of our students from Ajasin University Ajasin, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), remains a painful injury that has not been cured. The unexpected death shook our students’ bodies to the point, and we continued to lament their absence when seeking justice on their behalf.”

Adeboye praised the Nigerian police for his initial response and the arrest of the suspects involved in the murder, describing the action as “a significant step towards the right direction.” However, he stressed that the sudden death of the main suspect had caused serious concerns in the student community.

“A sudden and unfavorable death of the main suspect in detention has raised more questions than answers. Although we do not make accusations, it is our duty as student leaders to advocate accountability and transparency. We believe that every important life – even a suspect – and truth, in all its forms, must be revealed.”

Student Agency urges Ondo State Police Command to conduct professional and transparent investigations to determine the exact cause of death.

“Therefore, we humbly call for the leadership of the Nigerian police, especially the Ondo state command, to conduct a comprehensive, professional, and transparent investigation of the exact cause of the death of the suspect.

“We ask this not because of distrust but because of a strong desire to ensure that the reasonable process is followed and that justice – is true and unquestionable – is conveyed not only to AAUA students who died, but also to the public who were looking for like that.”

While emphasizing that the appeal did not damage the credibility of the police, Adeboye noted that justice must not only be done but must also be seen.

“This is not a call to blame or doubt the competence of the police.

The students also asked the Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, to use his office to support the investigation.

“We are both asking for His Majesty, the Governor of the State Ondo, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, to continue to lend votes and their influence to ensure that every support needed is given to the police and other related institutions involved in the investigation.”

Referring to their commitment to peace, Adeboye said the student community would remain calm and obedient to the law but insisted on a fair and complete investigation.

“As a student community, we remain calm, obey the law, and focus on justice. We ask all stakeholders, from security operations to government officials, to join us in ensuring that our students’ lives are not lost in vain.

“We owe our friends who fall. We owe the families who mourn them. We owe students in the State of Ondo.

“Justice must be served fairly, transparently, and fully.”
