Commissioner Edo accused Peter Obi of hypocrisy when the state visit increased

Edo’s State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Paul Uhonabamu, has accused the presidential candidate of the Labor Party in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, hypocrisy and ignoring the established security protocol during this new visit to the state.

You, who appeared on the television program Channels, The Morning Brief, Uhonabamu, referred to an incident of 2013 where Obi, then served as the Governor of the State of Anambra, who allegedly arrested the former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, for 48 hours, a step described as abuse of executive power.

“Protocol is a standard practice, and Peter Obi knows this. He established it with brutal efficiency when he became governor,” he said.

“El-Rufai himself admitted that he was detained for 48 hours in 2013. It was not only abuse of power; it reflects pathological fixation by the use of raw authority.”

Commissioners’ comments followed the political dispute triggered by Obi’s visit July 7 to the state of Edo, who received criticism from the Governor of Monday Okpebholo and its allies for allegedly violating the advice of state security.

Ohonahbamu argues that Obi’s actions ignored the direction of the police who disappointed public meetings on the day of his visit.

“What the governor said is not a threat. He only advised Obi to tell the country ahead of the future visit to the right security arrangements. If there is something wrong, the government will be blamed,” explained the commissioner.

He further criticized Obi’s supporters, known as “obidients,” showed that their reaction to the governor’s comments politically was charged and apart from reality.

“Other politicians who tour countries comply with protocols. Why is Peter Obi an exception?” He stated.

Quoting another example of alleged violations, you claimed that Obi was also rejected by his access to the state of Benue by Governor Hyacinth Alia for similar violations in the protocol.

He questioned the image of Obi’s public as a legal and humble politician.

“Someone who arrested another governor for political reasons cannot claim to be the law of law. That is not a rule of law, that is political harassment,” he said.

The commissioner also raised concerns over the implications of public safety from Obi’s visit, claiming that it triggered the invasion which resulted in at least three deaths.

“The intelligence report confirmed. Two people were killed in the hospital. They were rushed there,” he said.

“Wherever Obi goes in, there is this euphoria, and people rush afterwards. That can cause invasion. The Governor does not want victims in the state.”
