The Nigerian football family is in deep mourning after the disappearance of one of his forgotten heroes, Mr. Juld Demegu, popularly known in his glorious days of play as “military”.
The former Trojan FC and the Spartans of Owerri’s full -back, celebrated for his unparalleled defensive steel and the legendary stiffness on the field, lost the maximum battle of life on Sunday in his hometown of Ezialala Ogwu, Nguruwenkwo Autonomous Community, about Mbaise Lga, Imo State.
To his peak, “military” was a family name: a fearless defender who gave everything for the club and the state, gaining the admiration of fans and respect for the opponents. His creaking contrasts and the dominant presence made him the backbone of each team that has embellished.
Yet, like many heroes of his era, the story of retired Demegu became pain and abandonment. When the disease hit and needed more help, the system that served with pride closed an eye. Friends and admirers observed powerless while the appeals for assistance were accepted with deafening silence by those who are in positions of power.
Now, he’s gone, another star has passed away too early, leaving behind the memories of his brilliance and disturbing questions about how we treat our sports legends.

While the world of football cries, a truth remains clear: we must not wait until our heroes are disappeared to give them the support they deserve.
