A cry of help on the bridge collapsed in Pokiskum

For years, the people of Bayan Kwari Nahuta in Potiskum, in the state of Yoube, suffered a lot due to the collapse of a large bridge in their community. This structure, once a vital bond with schools, markets and health facilities, is now in ruins, causing infinite difficulties and endanger life.

The broken bridge transformed what was once a simple journey into a dangerous ordeal, especially during the rainy season when floods makes the area almost impractical. Children are often unable to get to school, while merchants and farmers face greater transport costs and losses while fighting to move goods to the market. The elderly and the sick are cut by health services, deepening the sense of abandonment of the community.

The area recorded several tragic deaths of children and young adults while trying to cross the failed structure. It is no longer just an infrastructure question: now it is a matter of life, education and economic survival.

The people of Bayan Kwari Nahuta is attractive for the Governor Mai Mala Buni and the government of the State Yoube to give priority to the reconstruction of this bridge. The reconstruction would restore safe access to essential services, relieve the suffering of residents and report hope to a community that has endured too much.

This is not simply a call to repair a bridge. It is an appeal for dignity, equal opportunities and the fundamental right to safe mobility. The people of Potiskum remain hopes that their cry will be listened to and the action undertaken without further delays.
