Von apologizes for the false report on the Wafcon – Thage final

Dear Nigerian estimated and friends of Voce della Nigeria,

On behalf of the direction and staff of the voice of Nigeria (von), I extend my sincere gratitude to all those who have reached with concern, support and constructive feedback following the deplorable publication on our website on the night of Saturday 26 July 2025, as regards the Wafcon 2025 final between Nigeria and Morocco.

The incorrect relationship, which prematurely and falsely announced a Nigerian loss before the end of the game, was both inaccurate and deeply unfortunate. The voice of Nigeria aligns with this historical moment, while our Super Falcons have mounted a courageous return to defeat the guests of Morocco 3–2, ensuring a tenth title of Wafcon extended by record and affirming their place at the apex of African women’s football.

We apologize sincerely for the disinformation and confusion that caused. The integrity of our journalism is fundamental and we take this accident seriously. While the initial reviews indicated an internal interior, we are also studying the possibility of a violation of safety or identity theft through hacking, which may have contributed to this disturbing development. As a public institution, we cannot exclude these IT threats and we are adopting appropriate measures to improve the safety of our digital platforms.

It is important to clarify that while internal editorial processes are revised and strengthened, we are not taking the exclusive responsibility of any individual staff member, including the sports journalist initially associated with history. Rather, this episode underlines the need for global institutional guarantees to prevent these occurrences in the future.

As part of our in progress internal reforms, we have introduced key editorial structures, including an investigative bench, an unit of control of the facts and a monitoring and evaluation team. We have also undertaken strategic staff redistributions to improve responsibility, build resilience and increase editorial efficiency through our platforms.

These reforms reflect our wider commitment in repositioning Von as a more reactive, transparent and respected media institution globally. In Voice of Nigeria, we embrace the responsibility that derives from the official international broadcaster of Nigeria. We remain stopped in our dedication to our three pillars: people, platform and partnerships.

We are deeply grateful for your engagement. Your voices remind us that responsibility is not a weight, it is a milestone of the public service.

Once again, thanks for being with us not only in times of national celebration, but also when we are called to reflect, correct and improve.

Hot greetings,
Mallam Jibrin Baba Ndace, Mnipr
