A hotel under construction in the community of Idumoza, Uromi, Esan North East Local Government area of the state of Edo, has collapsed, killing its owner, Andrew issere.

More than 20 workers on the site have escaped death, according to the witnesses.

The residents of the area told journalists that they had previously warned the deceased owner of the hotel on poor materials used for construction.

Andrew Inagbebor said: “The owner was said that he was using low quality material. He used 12 mm instead of 16 mm rods for the pillars. There was no basic basket in the pillars. Look at the result.

“The building collapsed because of the poor materials used. There was no engineer on site. The dead owner supervised the house. The house later collapsed and killed the owner, but some workers fled.”

The spokesman for the Edo police, Moses Yamu, said he has not yet been informed about the accident. (The nation)
