The 2025 edition of Capo Kingsley Uduh Junior South-East Junior Classics reached an electrifying conclusion at Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri, with Chimaobi Isaac Onuegbu and the lucky Chinasa, with Lucky Chinasa, conquered the best honors in the under 16 categories.
Onuegbu, representing the secondary school of Owerri City, showed superior resilience and shots to send Chibueze Nweke of the Mamanuel College 6-4, 6-3 in consecutive sets to lift the title of Under 16 boys. He pocketed the first N40.000 prize, while NWEKE was established for N30.000.
In the girl’s final, Favor Lucky proved too strong for Adachukwu Otuka, on a cruise to a 4-2 victory, 4-1 to claim the winner’s bag N40.000. Otuka has returned home with n30,000 as a second classified.
The category of the Under 14 boys saw another Onuegbu-Chinaecherem David-Dominare Ezichi Ewuzie of the State of Anambra with a 6-4 victory, 6-2. Chinaecherem moved away with n30,000, while Ewuzie received n15,000.
In the final of the girls under 14, Ebube Otuka dazzled with a 5-3 victory, 4-0 on Ginikachi Uwaleke, ensuring the N30,000 award. Uwaleke earned N15,000 for his efforts.
In the final of the Under 12 boys, Neochukwu has obed to the state of enugu triumphed on Kosisochukwu Macdonald 4-1, 5-3, conquering the cash prize n30,000.
Consolation prizes: semifinalists in the categories of boys and girls under 16-Neemiah EjioFor, Kelechi Nwosu, Ngozi Nwosu and Divine Nde-S-sterii were assigned to N10.000 each.
Other semi -finalists in the Under 14 and Under 12 categories, including Samuel Ndem, Makuo Obed, Benjamin Dirichukwu, Chibueze Ezeah, Amarachi Uwaleke and Amarachi Julius, received N7,500 each.
All 20 athletes eliminated in the preliminary phases were not excluded: each has received N3.000 in appreciation of their participation.
The organizers speak: speaking at the closing ceremony, Barr. Ugochukwu Uzodike, who represented the sponsor, the chief Kingsley Uduh, praised the initiative, observing that the goal is to highlight and cultivate raw tennis talents throughout the south -est. “The support of the Uduh Capo is a bold investment in the future of the sport of the region,” he observed.
The president of the local organizing committee, the chief Charles Duruaku, praised the competition standard and reaffirmed the commitment for the development of talents. “This tournament is a springboard for future champions,” he said.
The tournament had 40 junior players, with a total prize pool of N400,000 completely financed by the sponsor.
