The chapter of the state of Ogun of the concern for Muslim rights (Muric) has asked for equity and inclusiveness in the political succession plan while the mandate of the governor Dapo Inhabitun is gradually exhausted.
In a declaration issued on Monday 4 August 2025 and jointly signed by the President of State, Alhaji Jimoh Tajudeen Alao, and the secretary, Alhaji Olaleye Rasheed Damiare, the group insisted on the fact that justice and historical precedence ask that a Muslim is successful the isbomant governor, who is a Christian.
While praising the Governor inhaboun for what he described as his inclusive leadership and his role in the protection of Muslim rights – in particular his defense of the use of hijab in public schools – Muric has argued that the principle of equity must guide the next political transition in the state.
“We are lovers of peace and progress, but do not expect that development and prosperous unit in a state of injustice as what we are witnessing in the state of Ogun,” said the group.
Muric recalled the political atmosphere during the end of the mandate of Governor Ibikunle Amosun in 2019 when he, a Muslim, approved another Muslim, the Hon. Adekunle Akinlade, as his successor.
According to the group, many interested parties rejected that move on the basis of the fact that “a Muslim cannot happen to a Muslim”, a position he said was accepted by the Muslim community in the interest of balance and equity.
“That feeling inaugurated the current administration under the prince Dapo Inhabitun, a Christian. With that same logic, it is right that a Muslim now happens to him,” said Muric.
The rights organization has invited Muslims qualified throughout the state of Ogun to take a step forward and declare their interest in the race to the Governorate, underlining that Muslims are not short of capable and visionary leaders.
“Leadership must be open and inclusive. We firmly believe that Muslims also have credible and highly qualified individuals who are suitable for guiding.”
By reiterating his position against political partisan or religious extremism, the group said that he remains engaged in peace, equity and dialogue.
“Let Muric Ogun is not playing politics, but supporting equity, equity and justice for everyone,” concluded the declaration.
Muric’s intervention should arouse political discourse in the state, where division into areas and religious balance often influence decisions and electoral alignments.
