16 inmates escaped the Correctional Center Nasarawa

16 inmates in the early days of Tuesday fled from the middle security guard center in Keffi, the state of the nasarawa.

Spokesman Nigerian Correctional Service (NCOS), Umar Abubakar, revealed this in a statement in Abuja.

He said the prisoners defeated the warden on duty before they fled the facility.

The statement reads: “Nigerian Penitentiary Services want to tell the general public about an incident that occurred in the early hours of the morning, August 12, 2025, at the Center for Medium Security Detention, Keffi, Nasarawa state.

“Some prisoners violate the security of the facilities and attack personnel who are tasked with compromising the situation, allowing 16 inmates to flee from detention.

“In the process of loading the situation, five personnel from the custodian center suffered various levels of injury, with two now serious and receiving urgent medical attention in government health facilities. Seven of the escaped prisoners have been recognized and are now detained.”
