Monrovia, August 28, 2025: The lawsuit, brought forward by attorney Cllr. Sayma Syrenius Cephus and AFDASA Consultancy accused the hospital and physician of negligence and professional misconduct during Tamba’s care while she was 26 weeks pregnant.
According to the court documents, the family alleges that lapses in medical judgment and failures in standard care at JFK Medical Center directly contributed to Tamba’s untimely death. The suit details claim of negligence on the part of both the hospital’s management and Dr. Nuahn, highlighting what the plaintiffs consider egregious breaches of duty that led to the fatal outcome.
The suit demands $7 million in special damages and $10 million in general damages from JFK, along with $3 million in special damages and $5 million in general damage from Dr. Nuahn.
These sums, amounting to $25 million, are described as reflecting the profound psychological, emotional, and financial hardship endured by Tamba’s surviving four-year-old daughter, Destiny Kerkula, and the extended family.
While the plaintiffs acknowledge that “no amount of money can compensate for the irreparable loss,” they assert that the damages sought represent the depth of grief, trauma, and ongoing suffering experienced by Tamba’s loved ones.
Beyond the claims of malpractice, the family further alleges that Dr. Nuahn attempted to obscure the circumstances surrounding Tamba’s death.
The lawsuit claims that Dr. Nuahn threatened colleagues who were believed to have knowledge of the events, purportedly to prevent evidence from coming to light during judicial proceedings.
The family contends that such actions constitute an effort to block the emergence of crucial information at trial.
“No amount of money can compensate for the irreparable loss,” the suit states, “but the damages sought reflect the depth of grief, trauma, and ongoing suffering endured by the deceased’s loved ones,” they noted.
Beyond the malpractice claims, the plaintiff alleges that Dr. Nuahn attempted to conceal the incident by threatening colleagues who were believed to know about the events leading to Tamba’s death. The filing claims the second defendant threatened other doctors to block evidence from emerging at trial.
The Tamba family is requesting a full judicial hearing and is calling for both JFK Medical Center and Dr. Nuahn to be held jointly responsible for the losses suffered. The suit seeks all forms of relief the court finds just and equitable, emphasizing the family’s desire for accountability and justice in the wake of the tragedy. -Edited by Othello B. Garblah.
