Ogun’s Muslims ask for the governor’s home in 2027, a 44 -year defect of political marginalization

The chapter of the state of Ogun of the concern for Muslim rights (Muric) requested that the 2027 government seat was sold to Muslims, complaining what he described as decades of political exclusion in the state.

The group, in a declaration signed by its State President, Alhaji Tajudeen Jimoh Alao, and the secretary, Alhaji Olaleye Rasheed Damiare, on Friday, insisted on the fact that equity, justice and inclusiveness must define the political leadership of the state in the future.

Muric argued that since Ogun was created in 1976 and with the return to democratic governance in 1979, only a Muslim had occupied the governor’s seat, a situation that described as “evident, unjustifiable and unacceptable”.

The declaration states in part: β€œGovernance is a sacred trust (Amānah) and the leadership must be rooted in correctness and justice.

“Incredibly, in more than four decades of the existence of the state of Ogun, Muslims have been seriously marginalized, with a single Muslim who has never worked as governor despite the significant Muslim population in the state. This imbalance must end up in 2027.”

The group declared that its position was clear: “Our collective question is for a Muslim governor, regardless of the geopolitical area. We will no longer tolerate the persistent marginalization of Muslims in the political leadership of Ogun”.

Citing the Koran (5: 2), Muric urged the Muslim parts, including scholars, politicians, professionals, young people, traders and women, to ensure that the next governor emerges from the Muslim community.

The body has outlined the steps towards the implementation of the application, asking Muslims to publicly declare the support for the cause, to guarantee their permanent electoral cards (PVC) and place the UMMAH unit above sectional interests.

Muric warned that without political power, Muslims in state risk continued to abandon. He added: “A Muslim governor in 2027 is not simply a political aspiration: it is a moral, spiritual and democratic necessity that guarantees inclusiveness and equity”.

The group prayed for the divine guide in what described as a “historical struggle for balance, justice and equity in the governance of the state of Ogun”.
