Six Killed, Nine Injured in Fatal Accidents in Lekki -Epe Expressway

The tragic road accident at the Ibeju bus stop along the Lekki -pe Expressway has claimed six lives and caused nine others to be seriously injured after a truck crashed into a commercial bus.

Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (Lastma) confirmed that the victims including two adult men, three adult women, and a child. However, four other bus residents fled without injury.

According to the initial investigation, the accident occurred when the Blue Volvo FL6 truck was full of wooden boards with a colliding wooden bus number AKD 336 Y.

“Nine injured victims were quickly issued by Lastma officials with the support of other emergency respondents and were immediately delivered to the EPE Federal Medical Center (FMC) and Hammond Hospital for urgent medical treatment,” said Adebayo Taofiq, Director of Public Affairs and the Lastma Department of Enlightenment.

He added that the remnants of the deceased had been stored in the FMC morgue in Epe, waiting for formal identification by their families. The four survivors who were injured received immediate attention from the Lastma Rescue Unit, who worked with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Nigerian Police (NPF), and the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC).

Coordinated emergency responses ensure the rapid evacuation of the victims and restoring normal conditions at the accident site.

Lastma General Manager, Mr. Olarekan Bakare-Oki, sympathetic to the family of the deceased while expressed concern over the cases of repeated driving recklessly on the Lagos highway. He reminded the driver of the dangers of excessive excess, warning that “speed, but ultimately killing.”

Bakare-Oki also urged drivers to remain vigilant, comply with traffic laws, and avoid disturbances behind the wheel, especially during high-risk months, a famous period for an increase in road traffic accidents.
