Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has clarified his position on Muslim-Muslim tickets adopted by the Progressive Congress (APC) in the 2023 presidential election.
In an interview that was not surrounded in Channels’ television week political programs, the former governor said, contrary to what many people believe, his support for tickets is a political strategy to secure the victory of the election and not motivated by religion.
Speaking of strategy, El-Rufai said:
“That is a political strategy; it is a strategy to win the election; it is not a religious strategy. When you fight in the election, you see every variable, every index, every criterion that will help you win. That has nothing to do with religion.”

He also talked about the fear shown by many Nigerians over religion.
“As long as we continue to speculate about these problems, we will not solve them. We have done Muslim-Muslim tickets now. Tell me in what ways Christians are now mixed shortly; no. No leader wants to succeed will limit their choices designated to certain religions or ethnicities.
“If you want to succeed, you have to diversify. Now we have cured fear and love for Muslim-Muslim tickets. Has been done, buried, and leaving. I do Muslim-Muslim tickets in Kaduna; I want to know which Christians in Kaduna are mashed because of that,” he demanded.
