A woman has been tried in New Zealand accused of killing her two children and leaving their bodies in suitcases for years before they were found.
Hakyung Lee-who represented himself in a court-denied the murder of a six-year-old boy Minu Jo and Eight-year-old girl Yuna Jo in June 2018.
Their bodies were found by couples who bought the contents of the storage unit left in Auckland in August 2022.
He was extracted from South Korea to face accusations.
Alert advisor Lorraine Smith, who helped Lee in her representation, told the judges that the mother was brought to madness after her husband died of cancer in 2017.
Lee, who is a New Zealand citizen, has traveled to South Korea and changed his name in 2018, shortly after the children were believed to be killed.
He was born in South Korea and previously left with the name Ji Eun Lee.
Lee, who was 40, was arrested in September 2022 in South Korea and was extracted to New Zealand two months later.
The jury was chosen on Monday for Lee’s trial at the High Court in Auckland, which is expected to take four weeks.
Prosecutors had outlined their case on Tuesday and said they would call 40 witnesses.

Lee did not speak during the trial on Monday and shook his head, rather than answering through the translator, when asked how he begged the accusation.
An innocent request was included by Judge Geoffrey Venning, who led.
Lee has given written approval to be extradited after a formal request from New Zealand to return it to face the trial, said South Korean officials at the time.
The South Korean Ministry of Justice said that he had given the newly determined “important evidence” in this case.
